Advising
Rachel Weiss, the Undergraduate Advisor for the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, is located in Room 1244 of the Van Hise Building, on the 12th floor.
Rachel is available to meet with undergraduate students at any stage of their academic journey at UW—whether you’re:
- Unsure which classes to take,
- Want to ensure you’re on track to graduate,
- Considering studying abroad, or
- Just looking to talk about your goals and interests.
She looks forward to meeting with you, answering your questions, and helping you make the most of the opportunities available both on campus and within the department.
Making an Advising Appointment
Are you considering, or exploring:
- Asian Languages & Cultures major
- Chinese major or certificate
- East Asian Studies major
- Japanese major or certificate
- Korean major
- South Asian Studies major
- Southeast Asian Studies major

Declare or cancel process
Students may declare a major or certificate with the Advisor at any time by making an advising appointment. Declaration or cancelation process will be done during the advising appointment. Students may schedule in person or remote appointments either through Starfish or email.

International Internship Program (IIP) develops and identifies internship opportunities all over the world, with strong ties in countries across Asia! IIP advisors help students navigate the whole process of finding global internship opportunities, applying for different positions and then support interns during and after their experience. They also offer advising for interested students, help with credit and identify funding for internship opportunities.
