Michael Toole has received a 2019 Capstone Teaching Award for his outstanding work as a University of Wisconsin teaching assistant. In recognition of the critical role TAs play in undergraduate instruction, this campus-wide award acknowledges teaching assistants who have performed as outstanding teachers throughout their UW-Madison tenure. Nominees are dissertators at the end of their graduate program and planning to defend their dissertations by the end of the school year. Michael is a graduate student who is finishing his dissertation which explores how authors and artists negotiated normalcy in representations of the body and sexuality in early modern Japanese visual culture.
