Japanese Speech Contest and Outreach to High Schools in Winsonsin

The 14th Annual UW-Madison Japanese Speech Contest (March 3, 2016) brought the Madison community together and also provided a venue in which students speak confidently in Japanese and connect with many people not only from Madison but also from many parts of Wisconsin.  The speech contest is truly a community event, involving faculty, teaching assistants, and students of EALL.  The speech contest this year was a huge success again by bringing people together and thus enabling them to enjoy the Japanese language and culture in the community.  In addition, in collaboration with the Language Institute, UW-Madison Japanese language students reach out to high school students in Wisconsin by tutoring students in three Wisconsin high schools (Madison East, Manitowoc Lincoln, and Plymouth High Schools) through weekly videoconferencing and in person.
