My field of interest is broadly about twentieth-century Chinese literature and media culture. My dissertation, “Science vs. Fiction: Popular Culture and Imagined Socialism in China, 1950-1980,” examines transmedia scientific discourse in socialist China. I am particularly interested in the questions of how the notions of science and socialism mutually shaped each, and how these evolving futuristic/realistic imaginations were represented in mass media and popular culture in the PRC from the 1950s to the early 1980s.
