Tyrell Haberkorn Awarded Plaenert-Bascom Professorship

Congratulations to Tyrell Haberkorn on her appointment to the Walter L. and Elise Schneider Plaenert-Bascom Professorship! This professorship acknowledges Haberkorn’s scholarly contributions to the university and will support her research for the next five years.

In addition to being a faculty member in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, Haberkorn is the founder and coordinator of the Justice in Southeast Asia Lab, and  affiliated with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the Human Rights Program.

Haberkorn’s scholarship, teaching and public work are focused on state violence, human rights and dissident cultural politics in Thailand. She is currently on sabbatical in Bangkok working on her fourth book, a history of political imprisonment and the criminalization of dissident thought in twentieth-century Thailand.
