Professor Bill Nienhauser directed a Workshop on the biography of Confucius as it appears in the Shiji (Grand Scribe's Records) for 35 graduate students and young faculty at Nankai University (Tianjin) from 18-29 June 2018. Besides practice in reading, translating and annotating the Shiji, many of the participants attended a mini-conference over the weekend of 22-23 June at which scholars from Hong Kong, Russia, Germany and the U.S. presented nearly completed translations for a forthcoming volume of the Grand Scribe's Records. Masha Kobzeva (UW disssertator), Chen Zhi (former PhD from UW), Cao Weiguo (former PhD from UW) and Huang Hongyu (MA from UW) all attended.
