In Memorium

Dear ALC community and friends,

As many of you already know, our Thai instructor of 12 years, Kannikar Elbow, passed away last week after her courageous fight against cancer.

Her obituary and the information regarding the Memorial Gathering scheduled tomorrow (Tuesday, November 15) are now available at the Gunderson Funeral Home
website

The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will be dedicating the International Education Week Story Slam this week (Wednesday, 7 pm, Memorial Union) to Kannikar, in memory of her life and her work as a Language & Cultural Trainer for Peace Corps/Thailand.

Kannikar’s family is encouraging us to make donations to the following organizations in lieu of flowers:

Our department has a dedicated wall of pictures of Kannikar — Kannikar with her students, colleagues, and friends! Please come and look — and feel free to share your favorite picture of your friend. I am sharing a few with you in this message.

We will work with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies to explore ways to honor her accomplishments as a dedicated and innovative educator of Thai language and culture.

We are all keeping her husband, Kent, and son’s Paul and Santi in our thoughts (address 611 S. Dickinson Street, Madison, WI 53703).

Sincerely,
Junko Mori
