ALC Graduate Student Council Meeting
October 5, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
We will be having our first meeting of the term on Wednesday, October 5th at 4pm in Memorial Union (specifically at Der Rathskeller on the basement level). Any one of you is invited to join the council, or just join us that day to chat about what’s going on in the department and touch base with us! Right now, we have a couple students from the Chinese program track and one from the Japanese program, so we would be especially happy to be joined by students from the ALC track!
If you would like to participate in the council and represent your program track, please reply to this email or contact Mary at mgreen33@wisc.edu. We are also very happy to see you at our first meeting even if you’re unsure about joining the council or just want to be involved in the conversation without the commitment of becoming an official member.
What does the council do?
Our main goal is to be the collective voice for all ALC graduate students. The council will collect input about questions, concerns, issues that are based on our individual experiences but relevant to all of us as a community. Based on everyone’s input, the council will work to present these issues to the department (e.g. directly to our DGS, the department chair, or at Department Committee meetings), and work towards solutions and changes that we graduate students would like to see. Please see our website for more details: https://alc.wisc.edu/graduate-programs/graduate-student-council
To that end, we need you to speak up. One convenient way to do so, is this anonymous suggestion box. Please use the following link or QR code to leave us your comments about issues you are currently experiencing in our department.

We are currently also working on creating a new mentorship program for new and incoming ALC grads that will match them with an advanced ALC grad. More info about that coming soon!
